ECLIPSES FOR CHAPULTEPEC
2014
Music by Juan Cristóbal Cerrillo, performed by ensamble liminar
Eclipses performed by students from the niños Héroes de chapultepec school from the city of puebla
The Eclipses series is meant to be carried out in different locations, emphasizing its attachment to each site without resorting to physical or historical landmarks, but rather adopting it as a point from which to observe the heavens. The perceived transit of the moon in front of the disc of the sun over the course of the next thousand years – a phenomenon visible very sporadically only at certain latitudes, and for a very short amount of time – is the pretext for a commemoration of the future, featuring hundreds of people who represent the eclipses by means of an animated card stunt. The third installment of this series took place at the National Auditorium adjoining Chapultepec park in Mexico City. Here, the eclipses that will be visible over the city in 2261, 2291, 2512, 2746, 2837 and 2983 were performed.
