The drawing of the wings of a butterfly of the genus Hamadryas has been modified to become an expansive design that could be extended to occupy the entirety of the space. Represented as a painting of colored sand, the texture of the color scales on the wing find a powerful simile capable of drawing the spectator in more closely to each of its details. By being put on the same level as the sand mandalas – and their double function as a representation of the psychic forces that sustain the illusion of the self while guiding its temperance – the wing pattern could be considered a representation of the forces that have shaped the current state of life over the course of millions of years of evolution.
